Just in case anyone is interested in the best tool for checking how many times a name or phrase has been typed into a
search engine then follow this link - goto
What this does is sends you to a screen where you can type in a phrase and find out how common a term it is. For example
you may want to find out how many times "low fat meals" has been typed in in the last month (in case you want to sell
lowfatmeals.co.uk or .com). This will help you to determine if your domain has a more realistic chance of selling as it is more
highly regarded than a name with no type-ins.
Remember though that you need to separate the words (as opposed to lowfatmeals type low fat meals), the system does not
recognise plurals, and thirdly, Goto is a bigger search engine in the USA and hence some "Britisher" terms may come up as
no results.
Even so it is an invaluable tool for anyone seriously looking to register and/or sell domains, or for getting an idea of value.
If you want an even better tool go to goodkeywords.com and download the free tool there. Not only
does it give you the Goto stats, but also the relevant keywords from a couple of other engines like 7Search and Lycos.
It also gives you an entry into the Alexa stats which can help check the history if you have gotten hold of a dropped domain.
Incidentally the same company also offer another free package called DNA (Domain name analyser). With this you can create
a name that you may be interested in and check if it is available in many TLD's (.com, .net, .co.uk, .it etc).
If you want to see what people are typing into the askjeeves engine then follow this link: jeevespeek
You can often see trends in order to try and see what people are interested in. It updates every 30 seconds though, so you
need to be quick or be looking for a certain topic.
The best way to determine if your domain is worth anything is the type-in test. For a better explaination of this and
indeed a general lesson in what to do go visit the home page of Rick Schwartz (The Domain King)
This info extracted from carpetbagger.com. Thanks Guys!
I have developed a small business producing low cost CDs for band promos etc.
Compact Disks (or Discs?) can be more cost effective than business cards - they
are so cheap now many small bands give away white labels for free at their gigs.
There really is no better way to promote your bands music!
